Dive Easy is a multi-platform interactive design concept, made for scientific divers collecting data underwater. Throughout this project, I developed concept designs and prototypes for a screen based application that collects data through a digital camera and button system on the divers goggles and glove.
Inspiration
Inspired by the project prompt to create an interactive system that aids in a low-bandwidth user scenario, I wanted to create a tool for scientific divers in order to make their tasks at hand easier while performing field work.
Phase 1: 100 Sketches
In beginning stages I was prompted to make 100 simple sketch ideas and start storyboarding to uncover pain points in a user scenario and get the design thinking flowing. I spent time researching what tool scientific divers currently use while doing remote fieldwork, and this allowed me to uncover potential design opportunities.
Uncovering Pain Points
In my initial research, sketching, and storyboarding I found that there was a disconnect between the scientific divers above water, on the boat, and the ones underwater collecting data.
I wanted to find a way to bridge the gap between these two users using a low-bandwidth friendly technology.
